Next: Step 7: Select Up: The Installation Program Previous: Step 5: Fstab

Step 6: Select Series

If you choose to let the Express Install select series for you you will not see this stage.

In this stage you select (with the space bar) the series you wish to install. The Base series is not optional, but everything else is. The X Utils series contains the Linux Installation manager and the control-panel, so if at all possible you will want to install it. It is a good idea to install the HOWTOs series as it contains lots of documentation. If you select the LaTeX series you must also select the TeX series. Also, if you select any of the X Windows based series, you must select the XFree86 series.

The iBCS series enables Intel Binary Compatibility, which will allow you to run iBCS compliant binaries for systems like SCO, UnixWare and other SVR4 systems. The WordPerfect demonstration series contains a demo version of SCO WordPerfect, and it requires the iBCS series.

If you do not install something now, it can be easily installed later using rpp-install,
tt rpp-install-series, or the Linux Installation Manager. The Linux Installation Manager allows a much finer granularity of installation control than is available at this stage -- individual packages from a series can be installed. However, if you do not install the XFree86 and X Utils series, you will not be able to use the Linux Installation Manager or the control-panel tools.
