The only supported configuration is: ISA bus ST 506 disk controller (e.g. WD1003 and compatibles) at least 1 Mb RAM at least 40 Mb disk Ethernets using the National 8390 chip (e.g. NE1000, WD boards) We are interested in finding sites willing to add functionality to the system. At this time we are ONLY interested in sites that can not only fix their own problems but are interested in adding support for new peripherals. Currently, a 4.3BSD or 4.3BSD-tahoe Berkeley license is required for the system. For further information, please contact Keith Bostic, preferably by email, at (415-642-4948, uunet!bostic, or bos...@okeeffe.berkeley.edu).

Nobody knows for sure, including us. However, there will be an "alpha" release around the end of June. To clarify some things, 4.4BSD will include 386 support as a standard platform. It will be integrated with NFS, TCP/IP and the rest of the system. The 4.4BSD tape will be licensed as 4.3BSD was licensed, and it will require a 32V or greater AT&T license to get it. There will be a second tape that will be distributed at the same time. It will contain all of the non-proprietary software included in the 4.4BSD distribution. This tape will be available without external license for a nominal fee. All of the 386 support included in the BSD distribution will be included in this latter tape. --keith
