I recently reorganized all of the files on this machine. It seems not
everyone got the message, so here is a posting of the current information
needed to sign on.

What this is ...

This posting is made in response to someones request for a source package.
rpp386 is a public access SCO Xenix(tm) source archive system. A list of
files is available for your to peruse. After setting up the L.sys entry
for your system, you should immediately request the file ~uucp/archive
(/usr/spool/uucppublic/archive). Additionally, you should request this
file before any large file transfers, as file location may change, and
packages may be added.

Setting this up ...

Add the line

rpp386 Any ACU 2400 12142506272 in:--in:--in: anonuucp

to your L.sys file. You may have to adjust things to get this line to
work. Send a break to change from 2400 to 1200 baud. Try logging in
by hand if you have trouble. The login uuhelp exists for just this
purpose.

Requesting the transfer ...

The archive listing file will give the location of the files. All of
the packages are storaged as 16 bit compressed sharchives, except for
compress of course, stored in the subdirectory /usr/archive/.

Handling large transfers ...

There is a VOLUME column on the listing. That gives the floppy disk
which the backup of the archive is stored. If you plan on transfering
more than a few 100K, you may wish to use the US MAIL. Send E-mail
and we can work something out.

Submitting sources ...

Please do not upload more than 10K at a time. I actually look at
all the code. Large source submissions will create a serious strain
on my work load. Binaries will be trashed outright. SCO does not
permit me to re-distribute binaries.

This is the current list of files which are available by anonymous uucp
from rpp386. This listing supercedes any other list you may have. If
you are using rpp386 as your archive site, please replace your old list
with this new, improved one.

Notable additions since the last posting are a working BASIC interpreter,
a working uMoria and a whole collection of plot tools.

Oh yes, there is no affiliation between any of the companies whose trademarks
are used, and this system. UNIX is a trademark of AT&T Bell Labs, XENIX
is a trademark of Microsoft.

Welcome to my archive ...

This is a Xenix archive of USENET sources I've been able to get
running on SCO Xenix. If you aren't running Xenix, you may
still be in luck since things seem to work fine if they work
on Xenix. It's just going from Unix to Xenix that screws up.

Files are stored in /usr/archive, one package per directory,
as compressed(1)'d sharchives. Be _very_ careful to get the full
path-name. Many people forget the package subdirectory. For
	example, it is /usr/archive/moria/moria-1.Z.

Some of the archives have been repacked, others have been hacked
on. Like I said, everything here really does compile on Xenix,
	even compress on 80*86's.

If you have trouble with UUCP getting connected, which is very
common with PC-Pursuit, there is a `uuhelp' login you can use
to send me mail. The login is `uuhelp', no password. You will
get a restricted shell suitable for sending mail and such. If
all else fails, I can arrange to put things on floppy disks.

I went back in the archives and found a portable FORTH interpreter. After
a few little fixes it is up and running on Unix(tm) System V on a
Plexus P/95 and on SCO Xenix(tm) 2.2.1 on a Wyse 386.

It still needs to be ported to a 16 bit integer machine.

Instructions for retrieving sources from rpp386 have been posted to this
group recently. If you are unable to find them, send mail.

[ This posting is an experimental one. I will soon be making two
different posting. One which includes the actual archive listing
AND dialup instructions, then a second in the middle of the month
which only gives dialup instructions. Thoughts and comments are
welcome. Also, the archive listing is out of date because I trashed
the current version. This one is from a previous posting ... ]

Do not use wild
cards. YOU MUST NAME THE COMPLETE PATH YOURSELF!!!! DO NOT
FORGET THE /usr/archive/ SUBDIRECTORY OR YOUR REQUEST WILL FAIL!!!
For best results, pick up the script /usr/spool/uucppublic/snatch
which can be used to setup requests by package name.

In addition, the UUCP Maps are available in /usr/spool/maps/
	in uncompressed format.

Some of the archives have been repacked, others have been hacked
on. I do not use the standard archive names because I don't
keep all of the different versions and patches.

- John.

[ this is the new format for the middle of the month posting. it is
easier to read and should cost about $3,500 less to transmit ;-) ]

[ Last modified 03-Apr-88 ]

The login uuhelp exists for just this
purpose.

Also, if you are planning on using PC-Pursuit, I am located in the TXDAL
exchange. I strongly suggest you call before 4AM central time.

This is the short listing for the archive on rpp386. A longer listing
can be found in back issues of this newsgroup, or by anonymous UUCP from
rpp386 from the file /usr/spool/uucppublic/archive.
