HP ProLiant ML310 Servers running Linux deliver reliability, manageability, data protection, and support at a highly affordable cost.

Both growing businesses and branch offices of larger organizations are demanding the latest reliability features, but today few can afford to make a massive investment. This is one force that is driving companies to switch to Linux, as well as to servers like the HP ProLiant ML310.

Certified for Red Hat 8.0, SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 7, and UnitedLinux 1.0, the ProLiant ML310 is a single Pentium-4-based server that is designed for maximal reliability and data protection at an affordable cost. It delivers several firsts within its class—data protection, management, and support.

Data loss can be as catastrophic for a growing business as it is for a large enterprise, but the latest data-protection technologies often come at a premium that only big companies can afford. RAID (redundant array of independent disks) is a way of storing the same data in different places, thereby increasing fault-tolerance. Because the operating system sees the multiple drives as one logical unit, RAID also improves performance.

Software RAID, typically used on less expensive servers, does not enable a boot drive to be mirrored, and normally hinders performance. Within its class of servers, only the ProLiant ML310 offers integrated ATA RAID 0, 1, and 1+0, completely integrated with the ProLiant suite of deployment and management tools.

In addition, only ProLiant servers offer complete support for Smart Array RAID controllers, which help protect data from drive failures and improve performance, while maintaining data compatibility across generations of Smart Array controllers and ProLiant platforms.

For maximal data protection, the HP ProLiant ML310 supports SCSI-based DAT, AIT, and DLT internal tape backup drives. In addition, the ProLiant ML310 supports the 35GB IDE AIT tape backup drive, delivering backup storage for ATA-based servers without the need for an additional SCSI controller. This tape drive will also work in SCSI models, making enterprise-class backup available to entry-level server customers.

Businesses can't grow if they have to spend too much time managing their systems. The ProLiant ML310 is the only single-processor server to support the Remote-Insight Lights-Out Edition (RILOE) II card, which provides virtual control of the server from any point on the network to any other point. New technology in the RILOE II card, including enhanced graphical and security features and virtual media capabilities, enables more efficient performance of server deployment, application, and maintenance.

The HP ProLiant ML310 comes standard with a one-year warranty on all system components, and it's the industry's first single-processor server to offer prefailure warranty that covers processors, memory, and hard drives (including ATA hard drives).
