hp Introduces Linux-based x2000 and x4000 Workstations
August 6, 2001—HP today announced new Linux-based versions of its x2000 and x4000 workstations. These systems join HP's two other Linux-based workstations, the pL-class and the xL-class, two Intel Pentium III systems.
The hp workstation x2000, based on Intel's 850 chipset PentiumŪ 4 processor, clocks frequencies up to 1.7 GHz. It combines performance, flexibility, and sophisticated graphics capabilities to meet the demands of mechanical design engineers, digital content creation (DCC) artists, and financial professionals who run memory-intensive technical applications that require the fastest data transfer speeds.
The hp workstation x4000, based on the Intel 860 chipset (with clock frequencies up to 1.7 GHz), shares the performance benefits of Intel's Pentium Xeon processor and is enhanced with dual-processing capability and double the RAM. In addition, HP's advanced workstation graphics performance makes it ideal for professional engineers, designers, artists and digital content creators who perform simulations, virtual prototyping and other high-end visualization tasks requiring top processing power.
Additional details of this introduction include:
SERVICE: HP engineers will provide full technical support for the hp workstation x2000 and x4000 running Red Hat Linux 7.1.
LEADERSHIP GRAPHICS PROGRAM: Both systems provide a range of 2D and 3D graphics solutions, ranging from entry level to extreme performance, with guaranteed ISV certification through HP's leadership graphics program. This program offers HP's graphics expertise with a breadth of graphics products designed to address users' graphics requirements. In addition, HP develops graphics for Windows and Linux, and has strategic alliances with leading graphics vendors to provide customers access to the broadest choice of graphics solutions available.
HP workstations x2000 and x4000 with Linux currently supports the following graphics cards. Additional graphics choices will be added in Fall 2001.
AVAILABILITY: The hp workstation x2000 and x4000 are available today through direct and channel sales.
