November 8, 2000
IBM has announced availability of one of the industry's first e-commerce software platforms for large-scale transactions on the Linux operating system, Websphere Commerce Suite Start version 4.1.
This is the latest initiative in IBM's strategy to embrace Linux across its entire product and services portfolio, bringing the benefits of Linux and new applications to the Internet service provider, application service provider and telecommunications markets.
WebSphere Commerce Suite 4.1 Start software provides features and functionality to meet the needs of markets for business-to-business and business-to-consumer e-commerce. It has features that allow companies to increase revenue through targeted customer loyalty and relationship marketing programs, and complete integration with existing systems and processes.
The software will be available on the four major distributions of Linux -- Caldera, Red Hat, SuSE and TurboLinux. It became available on Red Hat Linux Oct. 31. It is scheduled to be available at the end of January on Caldera, SuSE and TurboLinux.
