Conectiva issues updates to High Availability system
São Paulo, April 2001 - Conectiva has published several updates to Linux High Availability solutions. Available now are version 0.4.9 of heartbeat, an application that checks if the machines in the cluster are responding, so that services are always active; and also corrections to DRBD, a network disk replication device that achieves on-line disk mirroring. They can already be downloaded on Conectiva's site by Conectiva Linux users. The updates are also available to the whole Linux community.
The main feature in heartbeat 0.4.9 is its superior stability when compared to earlier versions, as it has been divided in three packages with specific purposes. Conectiva developers have also corrected a few possible bugs related to the cluster initialization process. DRBD's corrections address a problem in the use of more than five replicated volumes. While a new kernel is not released, Conectiva offers a patch that can be used to compile a kernel adequate for such number of volumes.Next projects
Due to its open source, updates to the Linux operating system are constantly showing up. In this scenario, Conectiva is among the main active participants, maintaining a team specialized in programming and development that publishes important updates periodically, like the APT (Advanced Package Tool) version for .rpm packages that was announced at the end of last year together with Conectiva Linux 6.0.The team is developing yet another new version of heartbeat, which will support characteristics such as resource transition activated by external elements, better stability and better bandwidth usage.
They have also started activities in the real time technology and N-node cluster areas, which will maximize and ease the use of the Linux operating system in mission critical and high performance operations.Updates and patches for Conectiva Linux packages can be found in http://distro.conectiva.com/.
