I haven't seen a FAQ for iBCS2. Does any one know whether there is one? If there is one, can we update it? If there is no such thing, can we compile one? We can compile a FAQ document and put it on line. But we need to find someone to be the host and a place to put it, e.g. FTP or HTTP. We can put all the FAQs such as how to get Cobol, Foxpro, Progress to work and etc. This will be a good document for everyone. I don't have a personal web page, but I can use my company's home page. Doe anyone want to take the charge if the FAQ document does not exist? If no one wants to take it, can I take it? If yes, I need to talk to my boss. Don't worry, no money will be involved. We are all free to maintain and distribute it. That is the spirit of Linux! There is the start of an iBCS web site at http://www.purplet.demon.co.uk although I haven't exactly got very far with things. > If there is no such thing, can we compile one? If you can find some FAQs :-). Usually there are fairly short term groupings of similar questions but few that really qualify as long term FAQs. > We can put all the FAQs such as how to get Cobol, Foxpro, Progress to > work and etc. This will be a good document for everyone. My rationale for not including product specific guides with iBCS is two fold. Firstly because iBCS is supposed to be fire-and-forget so a ned for guides implies bugs in iBCS :-(. Secondly because commercial licenses for higher end software often specify limitations on the type of system and environment they may be used in. Giving specific instructions for running the software in an unsupported and unlicensed environment may be an offence in some jurisdictions and may leave you legally exposed. It's going a bit beyond the "gee, neat!" world that much of the open source community lives in. If you are thinking of using your company's web space you should probably give this second point plenty of consideration first...
