A few months ago I used the infomagic CD and used linux 1.0.9 to use iBCS2. I was able to run the old COBOL compiler for SVR3 but couldn't link. With all the talk about unix belonging to USL and then to NOVELL and then to whatever, too bad they can't allow linux to have compatible libraries to link with. I suppose coherent had to pay SCO or ATT to get their libraries. Is this correct? Who needs to be payed to get the "rights" to SCO compatible libraries so that I can do warped things like linking SCO binaries under linux? Go ahead flame me for asking about something related to linux. I started with good intentions, intending to relate to the other incoherent users that yes, you can run the compiler for SCO, but you can't link. So go ahead, run wordperfect and other stuff, but toss your old linker stuff. I just had a warped idea. Could someone with iBCS2 copy coherent libraries and link to them under linux? Compiling a systemV/386 COBOL program and linking to coherent libraries. Warped. I think I'll pass... There are Linux shared libraries for COFF and ELF iBCS2. Link libraries however need you to build a suitable C library set. You can do it from the gnu libc (glibc) but its not easy work and while you can build generic iBCS2 easily trying to add in all the useful extensions would probably drive you up the wall. >SCO compatible libraries so that I can do warped things like linking >SCO binaries under linux? You need the relevant SCO license to have the libraries on the machine. I'm not clear about NFS mounting them. A friend has a similar problem with Sculptor >I just had a warped idea. Could someone with iBCS2 copy coherent >libraries and link to them under linux? If they are clean COFF it ought to work. Build a COFF gnu binutils (or use the coherent gnu tools ones). >Compiling a systemV/386 COBOL program and linking to coherent libraries. >Warped. I think I'll pass... It may or may not work. Its pretty warped anyway if you need the C libraries to link cobol programs. And as someone who has built a COFF library set and tools so I can build SCO compatible binaries its not an easy job, and I was plugging in pieces from all over the place rather than doing anything by scratch. The one that got me going loopy for ages was that COFF requires a gcc built for no leading underscores and to use pcc struct returns (which had me for hours). I've got a COFF development environment under Linux built entirely out of free software. I'm not 100% happy with it yet and haven't got around to tidying it up as it is used for one purpose and does that right. In paticular it can't link against the shared COFF libc but only the static one. This is ok apart from when you start trying to build X binaries 8). >: : I just had a warped idea. You still need a decent crt0.o (the example with ibcs2 assumes COFF with a leading _ which is wrong for SCO libraries).
