In an effort to make cdm work and exit correctly withiout
leaving zombie processes galore, I have moved the
xdm -nodaemon line from /etc/rc.local ro /etc/inittab.
However, in so doing, I had tons of problems and they
all stemmed from an incomplete understanding of the
format lines in inittab must take. Does documentation
exist somewhere describing the format and what option
are available for this file? For example, I have determined
that the c1,c2,c3 and so forth lines refer to virtual
consoles so I have commented out all lines except
c which I assume is the main console and then replaced
respawn getty with xdm, but the format for this baffls
me and for all I know that's a very foolish way
of doing things. Can someone help me out here?

Thanks,
Ezra

Get the bootsys package from sunsite, tsx-11 or nic. Even if you decide not
to install it the documentation will be enlightening :-).

Or get the new SysVinit package from sunsite.unc.edu:/pub/Linux/Daemons.
It has all the documentation you need (README + manpages).
I'll email pmacdona about it so that he can use it in the next SLS
release.

Mike.
