Everything needed to build the shared libc is on tsx-11.mit.edu in the /pub/linux/packages/GCC directory. A note of caution: there are no docs and the mechanism is somewhat complicated, but some people have been able to figure it out and build their own shared libs. That said, the shared library mechansim is currently under going a major overhaul thanks to the fine work of Eric Youngdale. The latest, experimental version greatly simplifies the building of shared libs and also supports a limited form of dynamic linking. If you are really serious about building your own shared libs, join the GCC channel on the linux mailing list. That is where all the nitty gritty details are discussed.
