Caldera Systems Ships First Linux Desktop Product for the Internet -- OpenLinux eDeskTop 2.4

eDesktop Ships With Citrix ICA Client, Moneydance Personal Finance Manager, Webmin Remote Browser-based Utility, Pre-configured ISP Access Numbers, Key Internet Browsers and Plug-ins

OREM, Utah - March 28, 2000 - Caldera Systems Inc., (NASDAQ: CALD) the "Linux for eBusiness" leader today announced the shipping of OpenLinux eDesktop 2.4.

It ships with the Citrix ICA client and is the first Linux high performance desktop platform -- and the only Linux product -- providing instant Internet access through preconfigured, preinstalled browser plug-ins and ISP phone numbers. OpenLinux eDesktop seamlessly bridges the gap between the LAN and the Internet as both an Internet and network client.

"What we want to do with OpenLinux eDesktop is provide high-performance Linux desktop software optimized for the Internet," said Ransom Love, president and chief executive officer of Caldera Systems Inc.

"eDesktop is a full-featured Internet and network client that gives users access to remote, Internet and network applications. The installation of preconfigured Linux software is even faster and easier than before and we believe it's the most manageable Linux desktop solution on the market."

OpenLinux eDesktop includes Webmin -- a solution that allows administrators to manage software and configuration from across the aisle or around the world via a Web browser. Webmin increases IS productivity by providing a single tool to manage a variety of machines. eDesktop also includes the third generation of Lizard, Caldera's installation Wizard.

"eDesktop 2.4 is the single easiest Linux product to install," said David McAllister, former technology director for SGI and current Maxspeed CTO. "I've installed at least six distributions and this is the first one that detected every device connected to my laptop."

OpenLinux eDesktop not only allows users to access the applications they want -- it allows users to create applications. The most recent Java Development Kit from Sun -- JDK 1.2.2 is included in eDesktop.

Java is the predominant language used in Internet applications. eDesktop also includes Omnis Studio, a visual rapid application development package that allows developers to create applications in a component-based environment.

"Omnis collaborates with Caldera for the simple reason that they have the best articulated business model and eDesktop is the perfect product for us," said Jim Dorst, COO of Omnis Technology Corp. "We bring our business application base to the channel . . . and they deliver."

Caldera Systems Premiers OpenLinux eDesktop 2.4; Includes Citrix ICA Client for Linux

OpenLinux Users Can Now Access Applications Regardless of Platform

OREM, Utah - March 30, 2000 - Caldera Systems, Inc., (Nasdaq:CALD) today announced the debut of OpenLinux eDesktop 2.4 -- a high performance Linux desktop for the Internet -- that includes the Citrix(R) Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CTXS) Independent Computing Architecture (ICA(R)) client.

The Citrix ICA client, in conjunction with Citrix MetaFrame(TM) application server software, enables OpenLinux eDesktop users to access any application. The client support provides access to any Windows, UNIX and Java applications and allows Linux users to access locally developed applications. With the ICA client, an OpenLinux eDesktop workstation can access any Windows, UNIX or Java application when connected to a server running Citrix MetaFrame or Citrix WinFrame(R) software. These two solutions provide end users the low cost and reliability of Linux with access to a wide range of applications. In fact, eDesktop can access UNIX and Windows server applications using the ICA client, even though it is not running on Linux servers.

"Because we have pioneered Linux for eBusiness, it's fitting that we're the first to deliver a Linux desktop product that fits into the application server model," said Benoy Tamang, vice president of marketing for Caldera Systems. "For years, businesses that wanted to offer a choice of applications to their employees did so at a great cost. Not anymore. OpenLinux eDesktop not only comes with powerful, native Linux business applications, but the Citrix ICA client gives Linux users the power to choose their applications. Finally, choice at an exceptional value."

"This is certainly a mutually beneficial situation for Citrix and Caldera, but the real winners are our customers," said Douglas Wheeler, senior vice president of worldwide marketing for Citrix. "The acceptance of ICA by leaders in the Linux space, such as Caldera, brings Citrix closer to providing users with platform-independent access and enables our mutual customers to access virtually any application from any device. Caldera's decision to incorporate Citrix ICA in its product also will help extend the standard of ICA for server based computing to the Linux desktop."

System Requirements

OpenLinux eDesktop 2.4 includes remote management capabilities and integrates into existing systems, running on Intel-based PCs Pentium III, Pentium Pro, Xeon or Pentium/compatible. About Citrix ICA

With more than 3.5 million concurrent user licenses since its introduction in 1995, the Citrix Independent Computing Architecture (ICA) is an emerging industry standard for server-based computing. Citrix's ICA technology includes a server software component, a network protocol component, and a client software component. On the server, ICA separates application logic from the user interface and executes 100% of the application on the server. The ICA network protocol transports keystrokes, mouse clicks and screen updates over standard protocols to the client, typically consuming less than 5 kilobits-per-second of network bandwidth. On the client, users see and work only with the application's interface.
