                             LINUX-FT
                             --------

                          The Road Ahead
                          --------------

Linux-FT is a Lasermoon Ltd product which was developed with the intention
of achieving POSIX.1 and XPG4 certification as part of a project
Lasermoon started in January 1995. Lasermoon obtained the required
licences (POSIX.1, XPG4 etc) and X/Open membership to facilitate this
fully GPL'ed effort. Unifix were involved in the development of the
distribution, and components from Linux-FT were fed back into other
Unifix products (hence the similarities).

The technology behind Linux-FT was acquired by Caldera during 1996 and
will be incorporated into the Caldera's Linux products.

Caldera's involvement with Linux-FT has been the subject of many postings
and press announcements over many months and details can be found on
the Linux-FT WWW site at www.lasermoon.co.uk and Caldera (www.caldera.com).

Unifix have no connection with, or control over Linux-FT. Whilst
we are flattered that Linux-FT is receiving such attention, BOTH
Unifix GmbH and the Unifix 2.0 RELEASE HAVE NOTHING WHATSOEVER
TO DO WITH CONTINUING Linux-FT DEVELOPMENTS.

Caldera and Lasermoon are continuing the work of developing
a truely Standards Certified/Branded Linux (released under the GPL).
Working with the orignial developers, we welcome all contributors to the
POSIX.1 and XPG4 standardisation effort which is essential for the
long term success of Linux.

By working together, we can accomplish this effort in a much more
effecive manner and comply with the licensing requirements of The Open
Group and other such organisations.

If you have any further questions concerning this post, or would like
further information about Linux-FT and its development and Linux
Certification, please contact us or check the Web : www.lasermoon.co.uk

[ Moderator's note: Sigh. I don't know which side is correct.
Further discussion of this will be rejected, and should be
  taken to comp.os.linux.misc.

I want to make this quite clear: I do not know which side is
correct. I'm not taking sides, except that I don't want to
  have this discussion fill c.o.l.a.

	Linux-FT, Unifix and Lasermoon --- a clarification

A recent article in comp.os.linux.announce from info@lasermoon.co.uk
(Ian Nandhra) tried to disrepute Unifix and their development
Linux-FT. Though we do try not to get involved in public exchanges,
this posting from Lasermoon contains so many things that are not true
that we could not leave it unanswered.

In the following, we will try to correct the worst errors from
Lasermoons posting:

> Linux-FT is a Lasermoon Ltd product which was developed with the intention
> of achieving POSIX.1 and XPG4 certification as part of a project
> Lasermoon started in January 1995. Lasermoon obtained the required

Yes, Unifix were involved in the development of the Distribution.
In fact, Unifix made the complete development without one single
line of code from Lasermoon, and finally sent them the master CD-ROMs.
Some of the CDROMs of Linux-FT and Unifix Linux were bitwise identical.
The only things Lasermoon did was the box, some parts to the English
version of our manual and the removal of Unifix from its copyright notice.

> The technology behind Linux-FT was acquired by Caldera during 1996 and

I doubt that, as Caldera already have a fine box.

> Caldera's involvement with Linux-FT has been the subject of many postings

On www.caldera.com, I can find no mention of Lasermoon or Linux-FT.
So this information seems to be outdated or has changed.

> Unifix have no connection with, or control over Linux-FT. Whilst

This is right, since there are no "continuing Linux-FT developments".
Instead, we decided to discontinue Linux-FT and call the followup
version "Unifix Linux 2.0", because the name Linux-FT is owned by
Lasermoon (or Caldera?).

Please pardon the "mud war" character of this article in an
announcement group. We will not followup on any further articles
from Lasermoon in this group; if you have questions about
Unifix Linux 2.0, please feel free to email me at

	rh@unifix.de

For technical questions or in case of problems with Unifix Linux,
Linux-FT (yes, we will continue technical support for Linux-FT,
which Lasermoon never did), Linux 4U or Linux Universe, send email to

	support@unifix.de
